McLaren F1 ‘LM Spec’ chassis #018 sells for £16.3 Million
McLaren F1 ‘LM Spec’ chassis #018 has sold at RM Sotheby’s Monterey sale this weekend for a record price of £16.3 million.
Last month we reported that one of just two McLaren F1s converted by McLaren to ‘LM’ spec was going across the block at RM Sotheby’s Monterey sale, and we expected it to break the £15 million barrier. Which, admittedly, is a bit easier now the Pound is on its knees. And indeed chassis #18 has broken the £15 million barrier at this weekend’s sale, going for a record auction price for a McLaren of $19,805,000, around £16.3 million at today’s exchange rates, and setting a new benchmark for F1 values.
Of course, this is a very special McLaren F1 and, in many ways, the two cars McLaren uprated to LM spec are more desirable as cars than either the standard road car or the original five LM models.
That’s because the ‘LM Spec’ cars get the best of both words, delivering the relative comfort and sophistication of the regular road car but adding the High Downforce Kit, 18″ GTR wheels, the F1 LM racing engine and the LM race-spec suspension, but dialled down to its softest setting.
It all adds up to the perfect McLaren F1, and the price it fetched reflected that.
