Porsche Taycan sets Nurburgring record for electric car
The new electric Porsche Taycan takes a Nurburgring lap record for a four-door electric car with a time of 7 minutes 42 seconds.
Porsche is on a mission to convince the car buying public (well, the wealthier at least) that the Porsche Taycan is a real Porsche, a real Porsche that just happens to be powered by batteries and electric motors rather than an ICE.We’ve already seen Porsche poke Tesla in the eye with repeated acceleration, managing to run the Taycan to 124mph again and again without and cooling-off period or drop in performance. So that’s the repeatedly usable performance bit done.
We’ve also seen Porsche run the Taycan for as far as it could at the Nardo test track, managing to put in 2,128 miles in a 24-hour period which included recharging the batteries. So that puts to bed the argument that EVs can’t cross continents.
Now we’re on to the track performance of the Taycan, so Porsche has headed for the Nurburgring to put the Taycan to the test.
Porsche claim the Taycan set a new record round the Nurburgring for a four-0door electric car with a time of 7 minutes 42 seconds which, by any measure, is quite impressive.
It’s exactly the same time the Porsche Cayman GT4 did in 2015, and the same as the 911 GT3 in 2006. It’s also four seconds slower than the Panamera Turbo a couple of years back.
Are we wrong to be surprised it wasn’t quicker?
