The Bentley Blower LIVES again – Bentley building 12 Blower ‘continuation’ cars

Bentley’s most famous car – Tim Birkin’s 1929 supercharged 4½-litre “Blower” – is to live again as Bentley announce a ‘continuation’ series of 12 cars.

We’ve seen car makers with a storied history cashing in on their past with ‘continuation’ versions of their most iconic models, like Jaguar with the Jaguar XKSS and Jaguar D-Type, and Aston Martin with the Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato and James Bond DB5, to name just a few. And now Bentley are joining the continuation party.

Bentley has announced that they are to build 12 continuation versions of Tim Birkin’s 1929 supercharged 4½-litre Bentley Blower, the first time any car maker has attempted a continuation version of a pre-war model.

Bentley are dismantling their own Blower – chassis # HB 3403 – and catalogue and 3D scan every single little piece to complete a digital model of the car and then, using original 1920s moulds and jigs, set about building 12 ‘new’ Blowers, one for each race the original Blowers competed in.

Bentley boss Adrian Hallmark said:

The 12 new Blowers will not only be an homage to our heritage, they will be a celebration of the outstanding skills of our Mulliner craftspeople. This is a new challenge for Bentley, but with the incredible success of the recent restoration of our 1939 one-of-one Corniche, we wanted to go one step further and make something even more special. Twelve lucky customers will soon be able to own a unique tribute to Bentley’s history.

It’s going to take Bentley’s Mulliner two years to complete the build of the 12 new Blowers, and if you need to ask how much Bentley want for a car then there’s no point asking.
