Fancy a 375bhp ELECTRIC Jaguar XK120? Got £420k to spare?

A British engineering company, Lunaz, is on a mission to electrify classic cars, including the Jaguar XK120 and Rolls Royce Phantom V.

Some classic car lovers aren’t impressed with the growing trend of electrifying classic cars to make them relevant and usable in a new age where volts run cars instead of oil.

But with Jaguar themselves electrifying the E-Type and Aston Martin electrifying the DB6, it’s a trend that’s not going to go away, and for those with deep enough pockets it’s actually a way of having a beautiful classic fit for the 21st century and usable as a daily driver.

That’s the ethos behind Lunaz, an engineering firm based in Silverstone and named after founder David Lorenz’s daughter Luna, who are on a mission to make great classics great for the EV world.

They’re currently working on a 1961 eight-seat Rolls-Royce Phantom V, 1953 Jaguar XK120 and 1956 Rolls-Royce Cloud, with the modus operandi being to strip the cars to a bare shell and make good, strip out the powertrain and drivetrain and design a specific electric powertrain for each car.

New suspension and brakes are a must too, as is the fitting of modern stuff like infotainment, Sat Nav and Air Con, all designed to integrate without despoiling a real classic.

Lunaz’s technical lead is former Renault F1 Technical Director Jon Hilton, and there’s further real expertise across the board, promising the technical and aesthetic solution Lunaz is employing are to the highest standard.

But these electric classics won’t be cheap – the starting point, which we assume is for the XK120, is £420,000.

At least some classics will survive, I got rid of mine to save me the pain of converting them plus my electric boat takes up my time, no smelly diesels for me
