THIS is the new electric Ford Mustang Mach-E
The new electric Ford Mustang Mach-E has been revealed accidentally by Ford as they put the Mach-E’s reservation site online too early.
We’ve only just learnt that the new electric SUV from Ford will be the Mustang Mach-E, as Ford takes perhaps its most iconic badge and extends its reach to the new SUV.Having told us the new EV will get the Mustang name – and not just be ‘Mustang-inspired’ – Ford is clearly a bit giddy with excitement as the Mach-E’s debut nears, and they’ve manged, for a short time, to put the reservation site for the Mach-E online. Oh, dear.
It’s now gone off-line, but the eagle-eyed chaps (and chapesses) at the Mach-E Forum managed to grab the highlights before Ford realised their cock-up (you can jump over there to see the rest of the images – which is only fair).
Apart from the images of the Mach-E – which look pretty good – we learn that, at least in the US, the Mach-E will come in five trims and start from as low as $44k (around £34k at today’s exchange rate), with the Premium, California Route 1, First Edition and GT getting progressively more expensive (the GT starts at $60k – around £46.5k). Which isn’t at all bad.
There are RWD and 4WD options, extender range versions with up to 300 miles, a mid-3.0 second 0-62mph for the GT model and the ability to grab almost 50 miles of charge in 10 minutes.
Inside is very Tesla-like at first look, especially with a big portrait ‘Tablet’ screen dumped in the middle of the dash, which makes it very clear Ford want a piece of the market Tesla is expected to grab with the new Model Y.
There will be moans about the use of the Mustang badge for the Mach-E, but, just like VW ID cars, the Mustang Mach-E could be the start of a whole new age for Ford.
