Ford Mustang Mach-E – Ford’s electric SUV has a name
The new electric Ford Mustang SUV will be the Ford Mustang Mach-E, reveals Ford, ahead of a debut for the new electric SUV at the Los Angeles Motor Show.
We’ve got used to calling the upcoming electric SUV from Ford a Mustang-inspired electric SUV. But now Ford tell us it’s not Mustang-inspired, it is a Mustang.
Ford has announced that the new EV SUV will be the Ford Mustang Mach-E, which makes it pretty clear that Ford aren’t afraid to use the Mustang name beyond the muscle car market (or ‘Mach’ for that matter), and perhaps flagging up the possibility that the ‘Mustang’ will grow in to a proper sub-brand range of offerings in time.
So the new electric SUV is a ‘proper’ Mustang, and it’s going to get its official reveal ahead of the opening of the Los Angeles Motor Show on Monday (18 November 2019), and Ford has said it will start taking deposits straight away for the Mustang Mach-E First Edition, ahead of its arrival in UK showrooms late in 2020.
That timescale suggest the Mustang Mach-E to be revealed in Los Angeles won’t be a concept but a proper production version, complete with four-wheel drive and a new platform and with a range (at least in top end models) of 370 miles, as well as performance models to come.
Proper details on the Mach-E’s powertrain will no doubt arrive in the coming days.
