Lotus Evija struts its 1,972 ELECTRIC horses on track

The Lotus Evija, the 1,972bhp electric hypercar from Lotus, begins testing, with video showing the EV out playing on the track at Hethel.

As Lotus starts to evolve with Geely money behind it, we had the reveal in the summer of what will be the Lotus halo car – the new electric Lotus Evija.

Revealed the Evija may have been, but it is just the start of the Evija’s journey, a journey aiming to deliver on the promise Lotus has made for their electric hypercar.

The firts properly new car from Lotus in a decade, the promise for the Evija is enormous, with an aim of 1,973bhp and 1254lb/ft of torque sitting under a car weighing a relatively lightweight 1680kg.

That is aimed to equate to a 0-62mph in under 3.0 seconds, 186mph in just 9.0 seconds and a top speed of 200mph.

Now, in an effort to deliver on all that promise – and to justify a £2.4 million price tag for each of the 130 being built – Lotus is out with an Evija that lives and breather on track at Hethel. And it looks mighty impressive.

Lotus’s Gavan Kershaw said:

Physical prototype testing at speed is a landmark moment for the Evija and hugely exciting for everyone involved. Our aim is to make sure it’s a true Lotus in every sense, with exceptional performance that’s going to set new standards in the hypercar sector.

As well as testing at Hethel, Lotus will be taking the Evija to other high-speed tracks in the coming months, and out on public roads, as it aims to get the Evija ready for production next year.
