Aston Martin CONFIRMS two new Lagonda models (Lagonda Taraf pictured
Aston Martin boss Andy Palmer has confirmed there are two new Lagonda models on the way by 2023. Or could that actually be three new Lagondas?
Aston Martin actually seem to be getting things right at the moment, and the tie-in with AMG appears to have lent an additional layer of confidence in the future for Gaydon. We have a plethora of updated Astons arriving – spearheaded by the DB11 and DB11 Volante – the Valkyrie Hypercar, a mid-engined Aston to take on McLaren and Ferrari, and plans for 21st century Lagondas.
We already know the electric RapidE will turn in to a Lagonda by 2020 – because Andy Palmer told us – but now he’s been busy pontificating to Car and Driver about what more is to come from Lagonda.
Palmer says there will be two new Lagonda models by 2023, and that they won’t be SUVs, and nor will they be traditional three-box saloon.
It seems Palmer has challenged AML’s designers to come up with a design which will shout luxury without being a three-box design, and deliver a car that will challenge the dominance of Rolls-Royce and Bentley.
What exactly the new Lagonda models will be remains to be seen, but we’re assuming that they will be in addition to the RapidE turning in to a Lagonda by 2020.
But whatever the new Lagondas turn out to be, it seems likely they will be built on the same platform as the DBX, and offer electrical assistance of some kind.
And be expensive.
