Aston Martin DBS 59 – a DBS Superleggera to celebrate a Le Mans victory

The Aston Martin DBS 59 revealed as a limited run DBS Superleggera celebrating Aston’s DBR1 win at Le Mans in 1959. Just 24 being built.

If you need a hook to hang a new limited edition model on, a Le Mans victory isn’t a bad way to go, even if it’s a victory of more than 60 years ago.

That’s what Aston Martin’s Q mob have done with this, the new Aston Martin DBS 59, a titivated DBS Superleggera taking its inspiration from the DBR1 racers which took a 1-2 finish at the 1959 24 Hours of Le Mans.

You’ve probably worked out that the ’59’ bit of the DBS’s moniker relates to the year of Aston’s Le Mans victory, but in a further nod to Le Mans there will be just 24 of the limited edition DBS models built.

As far as a 2019 road car can emulate a 1959 Le Mans racer, Aston has thrown it in to the DBS 59, the most obvious being the Aston Martin Racing Green paint job, with that period colour titivated with carbon fibre roof and spoiler and bronze for the badges, grille surround and the spokes on the wheels, as well as ’59’ badges.

Inside it’s tan and black leather with bronze stitching, bronze for the flappy paddles, ’59’ logos on the headrests, and fabric door inserts said to be inspired by the DBR1. There’s even a printed leather headlining featuring the DBR1 on track.

Apart from the period inspired titivation for the car, AML are also throwing in a rear compartment with helmet pods, a retro race suit and gloves – modelled on those worn by Caroll Shelby in the 1959 win – and a bespoke luggage set.

Order books for the Aston Martin DBS 59 are now open, with just 24 available. Aston aren’t saying, but expect to pay a chunk more than the price of a regular DBS Superleggera.
