The Aston Martin DBS Superleggera is on its way to replace the Vanquish
A new lightweight Aston Martin DBS Superleggera is on its way to replace the Vanquish, resurrecting both the DBS and Superleggera badges in Aston Martin’s offerings in the process.
Aston Martin’s range-topping Vanquish is getting set to be replaced, and when it arrives in the next few months it will wear a couple of badges evoking Aston Martin’s history. The Aston Martin DSB Superleggera will bring back the DBS name for Aston’s range topping car after it was usurped by the Vanquish a few years ago, and the Superleggera bit is a nod to the Superleggera badge used on lightweight DBs in the 1960s.
When the new DBS does arrive – and AML say it will be unveiled in Q2 – expect it to sport more aggressive styling than the DB11, keep faith with the ‘Superleggera’ bit by being lighter than you might expect, and have a meaty number of horses to play with.
Expectations are that the DBS will get at least 650bhp – and it could be a chunk more to make the Ferrari 812 sit up and take notice – from a fettled take on the new 5.2 litre turbo from the DB11, and a new character more akin to a supercar than a GT.
Mark Reichman, AML’s Chief Creative Officer, said:
When you hear the name DBS Superleggera, you know what it is. It’s the definitive Aston Martin Super GT. It’s an icon, a statement and this one will be no different. We’ve pushed the boundaries of performance and design to give this car a distinct character and ensure it’s worthy of the heritage and weight that this name carries.
With Aston Martin saying the DBS will be revealed in Q2 2018, full details are likely to arrive in the coming weeks.
