The Aston Martin Vantage GT12 Roadster has been revealed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed as a one-off Roadster version of the GT12 Coupe.
A year ago, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, we got the public debut of the Aston Martin Vantage GT12, a limited run of just 100 Vantages (which should have been the Vantage GT3 until Porsche complained) that slotted between the road and track and came with a 595bhp version of Aston’s naturally-aspirated V12.Now, a year on, Aston Martin has revealed a Roadster version of the Vantage GT12, but unlike the coupe the Roadster is not a production car, but a one-off commission from Q by Aston Martin.
Featuring the same 595bhp 6.0 litre V12 and seven-speed Sportshift III as the Coupe, the GT12 Roadster has been put together in just nine months by Aston Martin’s Q division to offer the same track-like thrills of the Coupe, but with the added bonus of fresh air above.
The obvious difference for the Roadster is the lack of a fixed roof, but that also brings with it other changes, like a new spoiler at the back instead of the Coupe’s wing and new carbon fibre body panels.
Under the skin, Q has delivered a new suspension setup said to give this one-off Roadster the same handling characteristics as the Coupe.
David King, Chief Special Operation Officer at AML, said:
The GT12 Roadster is the first project to combine all of those skill sets in one magnificent car. In just nine-months we took a customer’s dream and realised it, with a fully-formed, exactingly engineered and fully road-legal one-off. That is the essence of the Q by Aston Martin service.
The Aston Martin Vantage GT12 Roadster may be a one-off, but it is a showcase for the expanded capabilities of Q by Aston Martin, which now encompasses Aston Martin Advanced Operations and can deliver real one-off commissions like the GT12 Roadster, and not just titivations to Aston’s cars.
