Audi has revealed that it will launch a full hybrid version of the 2010 / 2011 A8 at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
It’s only a few weeks since Audi unveiled the new Audi A8 in Miami, but already there’s more news on additions to the launch range of engines – a V8 petrol and a V8 diesel – with the news that Audi will use the Geneva Motor Show in March to reveal the Audi A8 Hybrid.
Audi are keen to go electric with their cars – as witnessed by the two Audi e-Tron Concepts we’ve seen so far – and the A8 Hybrid won’t be a mild hybrid with performance boosting potential, but a full hybrid with the ability to run on electric power only.
In many ways this is a bold move by Audi. They are pinning their colours to the mast in a big way by not offering customers the sort of mild hybrid companies like BMW are with the ActiveHybrid 7 Series. But they need to compete. There’s a hybrid Jaguar XJ in the planning and Mercedes has announced the plug-in S Class hybrid for 2012.
It is expected that the A8 hybrid will go on sale later this year.
