BMW’s foray in to the world of front wheel drive MPVs arrived at the Geneva Motor Show as the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, BMW’s answer to the Mercedes B Class.
Engine choices at launch are limited, with the just the 1.5 litre three-cylinder with 134bhp in the 218i and the 2.0 litre diesel with 148bhp available in the 218d. More engines will be on offer later in the year including a 216d with under 100g/km, a 220d and 220i and 225i petrol models.
Starting point in trim options will be the SE, which comes with parking sensors, electric rear seats, auto lights and wipers, DAB and an auto boot, with Sport trim adding in 17″ alloys, Sports seats and LED lighting for the interior.
Luxury models will make the 2 Series Active Tourer feel more like the BMW you want with leather, different 17″ alloys and wood and chrome trim options.
Later in 2014 there will also be an M Sport model that throws in 18″ alloys, M Sport Suspension and M Sport styling for the body.
At £22,125 for the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer 218i SE (and £24,205 for the 218iSE) the BMW is slightly higher priced than the starting point for the B Class, but it is well equipped. Sport trim will add £1250 to the price of the SE, Luxury £2000 more and the M Sport specification an extra £3,000.
The new BMW 2 Series active Tourer goes on sale today (17 May 2014) with first UK deliveries due on 27 September (a Teutonically specific date).
