Bugatti Chiron – the Veyron’s replacement – caught on video
The replacement for the Bugatti Veyron – which will probably be the Bugatti Chiron – has been caught on video out testing on the road in Germany.
What are Bugatti going to replace the Veyron with, now production has come to an end? We’ve long thought it would be two cars – a new ‘super’ Veyron and a four-door super-saloon Galibier – but it now looks like it will be just one car – the Bugatti Chiron. The Chiron name isn’t confirmed, but the existence of another ‘world’s fastest production car’ from Bugatti is now a certainty as the new Chiron is out testing on public roads in Germany, ahead of a probable launch in 2016 and, maybe, a first look at the Frankfurt Motor Show in the Autumn.
Auto Bild caught this Chiron out in a convey of supercars in Germany, with the convoy appearing to include a second Chiron prototype, a BMW i8, Lamborghini Huracan and a Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse.
What’s powering the Chiron is pretty much a matter for speculation – as is whether or not Bugatti are planning to use some sort of hybrid power to enhance its performance – but it seems likely it will be a progression of the existing W16 engine heading towards 1500bhp with a 0-62mph in not much more than 2 seconds and a top speed above 280mph.
With the Chiron now spotted out playing, it can’t be too long before we start to get some concrete information.
