The electric version of the new DS 3 Crossback – the DS 3 Crossback E-Tense – goes on sale in the UK with prices starting from £32,350.
It’s getting on for a year since the DS 3 Crossback was revealed as an urban SUV take on the still appealing DS 3, and it looked very appealing and offered the normal ICE powertrains but also an EV version too.For Citroen’s DS it was a no-brainer to take their most successful model (their only successful model?) and turn it in to an electric car, and keep DS lovers on-board by making it look, and behave, much as an ICE powered version.
But it took until February this year to put the DS 3 Crossback on sale in the UK – with first cars now arriving on UK roads (no, we haven’t seen one yet either) – but that was only for the ICE versions.
But now the DS 3 Crossback E-Tense – the electric version – is finally going on sale in the UK, although you’ll have to wait until January to take delivery.
Prices start at £32,350 (after government bribe) for the Prestige trim and £35,350 for the Ultra Prestige, with specs for equipment pretty much the same as regular Crossback models.
But whichever electric DS 3 Crossback model you choose, it’ll come with the same 134bhp electric motor powered by a 50kWk lithium-ion battery which, say DS, is good for a 200 mile range.
As with all electric cars, it’ll be pretty nippy around town thanks to its instant torque, and will scoot to 31mph in a lively 3.3 seconds (0-62mph 8.7 seconds) and, despite its lump of batteries, it doesn’t compromise on space as they’re down the central tunnel and where the fuel, tank would be.
Yves Bonnefont, DS CEO, said:
From this year onwards, each of our models will be offered with an E-TENSE, BEV or PHEV, version, which uses energy in the most efficient way supplemented by regenerating energy during deceleration. DS 3 CROSSBACK E-TENSE and DS 7 CROSSBACK E-TENSE 4×4 are the realisation of our electrification strategy with no compromise in space, while unparalleled in style and comfort.
It’s a good offering at a decent price if you’re ready to jump in to an EV.
