Eterniti Hemera

Eterniti Hemera - updated with a new nose and more back seat space

Boutique car maker Eterniti has updated their Porsche Cayenne Turbo custom job – the Eterniti Hemera – before a launch in April 2012 at Beijing, and teased an Eterniti supercar.

The Eterniti Hemera first showed itself at the Frankfurt Motor Show this year after a raft of enigmatic teases about a new luxury car brand. And when it turned up it looked just like the Porsche Cayenne Turbo on which it’s based, albeit with some Gemballa-esque mods.

That the Hemera was still seen as a titivated Cayenne seems to have stung Eterniti a bit as they’ve had another play and come up with a new Hemera. Which looks like a Cayenne with a few more mods. But it doesn’t really matter much what we all think, because Eterniti has its eye on only one main market – Asia.

The word on the grapevine when Eterniti emerged last year was that they’re funded with Chinese money. The target market makes that even more likely, as does the expense they’re going to to promote the brand.

A stand at Frankfurt can’t be funded by loose change from the back of the sofa, and names like Alexander MacQueen heading up engineering and Johnny Herbert tasked with fettling the cars won’t come cheap either. So this is a well-funded operation, aimed at making similar sorts of product to Gemballa and Merdad, but to a whole new level.

There also is a ‘tease’ of a supercar from Hemera, but that’s all a bit old hat. We ran a story back in September when we noticed a sketch of a generic-looking supercar lurking in the bumph that came over from Eterniti. We speculated that it was likely to be Eterniti’s second model, and would probably be based on the Porsche 911 Turbo S. Which still seems highly likely.

The Eterniti Hemera with its new nose and extra room in the back for chauffeuring round affluent Chinese (no, Eterniti hasn’t stretched the Cayenne, they’ve just moved the seats back and compromised the boot) will be debuting in production guise at the Beijing Motor Show in April 2012.

A full 90 per cent of sales aimed at the Chinese market, with the other 10 per cent aimed at Russia, Europe and the Middle East. Price will be over £150k, and by the time buyers have finished titivating Eterniti are probably hoping they’ll spend twice that.

Following which we’ll no doubt get the 911 Turbo based Eterniti Supercar.
