As part of Ford’s promotion of their latest brand promotion campaign, Ford has taken their 1.0 litre EcoBoost powered Formula Ford to the Nurburgring.
Ford are on a mission to with their Go Further campaign to promote a whole raft of clever technologies that promote their tag line of ‘Quality, Green, Safe and Smart’, but their latest trick really floated our boat.
After its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Sped last week, Ford has taken their Formula Ford Racer fitted with the little, 3-cylinder EcoBoost engine of to the Nurburgring to see what it can do.
Now, to be entirely fair, the Formula Ford isn’t exactly a street car, but the time it put in on the Nurburgring, powered by pretty much the same 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine you’d find in a Fiesta or Focus, is incredible.
A time of just 7:22s the Formula Ford managed to get round the Nurburgring’s track in a quicker time than a whole bunch of exotica, including the Enzo Ferrari, Lamborghini Aventador and Pagani Zonda. Not too shoddy for the engine out of a compact hatch.
The Nurburgring lap with the EcoBoost engine may be Ford’s attention-grabbing claim for their latest technologies, but there’s other stuff which, although not as exciting, is impressive nonetheless.
Stiff like the Active City Stop technology that senses when the car in front has stopped suddenly and autonomously applies the brakes to stop you ploughing in to the back, and the Park Assist we reported on recently that parks your car for you – even on the roof of a skyscraper (not that parking your car on top of a tall building is an everyday occurrence – but it does manage to add a bit of drama).
