Further information on the new Hyundai Ioniq have been revealed, with details on both the Plug-in and Electric powertrain now confirmed.

The Hyundai Ioniq – a car, say Hyundai, that is the first to offer Hybrid, Plug-in and pure Electric powertrains – will debut in Geneva next week, ahead of which we finally get details of both the Plug-in Hybrid powertrain and the all-electric BEV Ioniq.

We had details on the normal hybrid Ioniq last month, with Hyundai revealing it will get a 103bhp 1.6 litre GDI engine mated to a 43bhp electric motor, but now we know what else the Ioniq will be delivering from its trio of powertrains.

The Ioniq Plug-in Hybrid will use the same 1.6 litre GDi engine and electric motor setup, but in the Plug-in the electric motor is more powerful (but not a lot at 51bhp) offering a maximum of 155bhp and an electric range of up to 31 miles and official emissions of 32g/km.

The all-electric Ioniq gets an uprated 28 kWh lithium ion battery pack which is said to be able to offer up to 155 miles between charges powering a 115bhp electric motor.

The Ioniq range will feature the latest connectivity, with Android Auto and Apple Car Play as well as TomTom live services, wireless phone charging and digital instruments.

There’s also plenty of safety tech on offer too, with Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Traffic and Smart Cruise all on offer.

You’ll be able to differentiate the different Ioniq models on the road from their colour accents, with the Hybrid and Plug-in getting Blue accents and the Electric Ioniq getting Copper accents.

Thomas A. Schmidt, Hyundai’s Europe COO, said:

With our pioneering ix35 Fuel Cell electric vehicle and several hybrid and plug-in hybrid models sold around the world, Hyundai Motor already has a proven capability in electrified powertrains.

Now, with the launch of our first dedicated model, we are taking the lead as the only car manufacturer with hybrid, electric, plug-in hybrid and fuel cell vehicles in production.

The Hyundai Ioniq gets its public debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.
