Hyundai Kona DIESEL goes on sale in the UK
The Hyundai Kona with a diesel engine finally goes on sale in the UK, joining the Kona petrol and Kona Electric, with prices starting at £19,750.
If you want to see the current antipathy (we’re being kind) to diesel-engined cars in action, you need look no further than the launch and roll-out of the Hyundai Kona.Revealed in June 2017, the Hyundai Kona went on sale in the UK in October, but the only engines options available were petrols.
That was followed just last week by the Kona Electric in the UK, and only now are Hyundai offering UK buyers a diesel Kona.
The diesel engine on offer in the Kona is the newly developed 1.6 CRD U3 engine which is Euro 6d compliant with AdBlue SCR, lean NOx and DPF with emissions as low as 111g/km and comes with either 113bhp or 134bhp, with a manual gearbox on the 113bhp version or a 7-speed DCT on the 134bhp.
Prices start at £19,750 for the Kona 1.6 CRDi with 113bhp, rising to £24,750 for the Premium SE 134bhp 7DCT.
Trim options and specs follow the Kona Petrol with S, SE, Premium and Premium SE on offer, and a choice of Galactic Grey, Chalk White, Lake Silver, Blue Lagoon, Acid Yellow, Pulse Red, Tangerine Comet and Phantom Black paint jobs (some at extra cost).
Tony Whitehorn, Hyundai UK CEO, said:
Whilst in general the market is reported to be moving away from diesel in the long term, our customer feedback shows that there is still a current demand for efficient and clean diesel engines, a demand that KONA diesel will be perfectly placed to satisfy.
