Hyundai Kona SUV goes on sale in the UK

The new Hyundai Koan – Hyundai’s new compact SUV and rival for cars like the Nissan Juke – goes on sale in the UK with prices starting at £16,195.

We’ve had the reveal of the new Hyundai Kona as Hyundai pushes in to the compact urban SUV almost created by the Nissan Juke, and even confirmation an electric Kona is on the way with a 240 mile range.

But now the Kona goes on sale in the UK – with just the choice of a 118bhp 1.0 litre three-pot and 175bhp 1.6 litre four-cylinder on offer to start with.

The 1.0 litre – which is a decent little engine – scoots the Kona to 62mph in 12 seconds, whilst the 1.6 litre is a chunk livelier taking just 7.9 seconds to 62mph – although it’s only available on the range topper.

Safety stuff is well catered for on the Kona, with all models getting Attention Alert, Lane Keep Assist, Hill Start and Downhill Brake Control, with SE models adding Blind Spot and Rear Traffic and Premium GT Autonomous Emergency Braking.

The entry-level Kona S 1.0 T-GDi comes 6-speed manual, 16″ alloys, rear spoiler, Air Con, electric windows and mirrors, Cruise, DAB, Bluetooth, 5″ LCD centre display and 3.4″ driver’s supervision cluster.

The Kona SE 1.0 T-GDi adds 17″ alloys, roof rails, Fogs, parking system with camera and sensors, 7″ touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The Kona Premium 1.0 T-GDi gets 18″ alloys, silver skid plate and side body moulding, black grille, Climate, auto wipers, privacy glass, Keyless,KRELL Premium Sound, and wireless phone charging.

Up another level is the Kona Premium SE 1.0 T-GDi throws in leather, electric heated and cooled fronts seats, heated steering wheel and HUD.

If you want the more powerful engine you’ll have to stump up for the Kona Premium GT 1.6 T-GDi which comes with full LED headlights, High Beam Assist, LED tail lights, 4.2″ driver’s supervision cluster and the Kona Safety Pack including Autonomous Emergency Braking with pedestrian detection.
