It seems the new Jaguar F-Pace SUV is the coolest car for dads on the school run, at least according to car valuation HPI’s motoring writers.

For those of us with children, we know that the car you drive, and the car you drop the kids off in at school, changes as they grow.

When they’re young they only want space and toys, as they get older they like colours and flash, and by the time they get to be teenagers they have very specific, and often unfathomable, likes and dislikes.

With new cars turning up at Cars UK Towers every week, we still haven’t fathomed what floats children’s’ boat when it comes to ‘cred’, but car valuation experts HPI have had a crack at defining it.

According to HPI’s motoring writers, the coolest cars for dads to drive on the school run is the Jaguar F-Pace. Which we didn’t expect.

According to HPI, they took a poll of their motoring writers, and have declared:

The Jaguar F-Pace just edged it in our poll ahead of the Evoque and the Tiguan. With its iconic Jaguar heritage in a popular SUV bodystyle, the F-Pace is sporty and compact yet relatively affordable. It’s also perfect for the age range of a dad doing the school run.

We’re not entirely sure children care about the F-Pace being relatively affordable, but HPI’s writers obviously feel it’s the SUV that floats kids’ boat.

With the Evoque in second spot and VW Tiguan in third (probably subconsciously influenced by their TV adverts) it’s SUVs as the top three, although the Audi TT and BMW X1 made it in to the top five.

For what it’s worth, we’ve always found that when teenagers care about the car you drive, there’s usually a distinct preference for something like a Focus RS or a quick Mitsubishi or Subaru rather than an SUV.

Perhaps the answer is to make the little darlings walk to school?
