Jaguar I-Pace is the 2018 Scottish Car of the Year
The Jaguar I-Pace has added to its ever growing list of awards by being named the Scottish Car of the Year, and the best Alternative Fuel Car too.
The Jaguar I-Pace may be a Jaguar like no other, with its unique styling and powerful electric performance, but it seems to point at Jaguar’s future even more convincingly than the F-Pace or E-Pace SUVs, and certainly more so than the XE, XF or XJ which, despite being enormously appealing cars, just don’t seem to fit with the Zeitgeist.Production of the I-Pace may not be a success story for the UK – it’s built in Austria – and the numbers rolling out aren’t, on their own, going to transform Jaguar. But the direction seems hugely promising, and the plaudits from public and and press is overwhelmingly positive.
That has been demonstrated by the raft of awards the I-Pace has already garnered, including 2018 German Car of the Year and 2018 Sunday Times Car of the Year, and now it can add to that with the 2018 Scottish Car of the Year.
Taking the COTY gong (and best AFV Award too), the President of the Association of Scottish Motor Writers, John Murdoch, said:
The I-PACE SUV is the most stunning car produced by Jaguar since the E-Type. It is the most exciting car currently on the market and it fully deserves the Scottish Car of the Year crown. It looks great, drives superbly and offers all the luxury you would expect from a Jaguar. At the same time it is a huge step forward for the company and a game-changer for electric vehicles in general.
Jaguar are being a little coy about just how many I-Pace orders they have (they’ve only actually delivered a bit over 1,000), but they do say there were over 1,000 test drives in September alone and more than 250,000 UK visitors have configured ‘their’ I-Pace on Jaguar’s website.
Which, if nothing else, shows the I-Pace is garnering real interest. Which is good news for the rather beleaguered JLR.
