The Lagonda Taraf has been unveiled by Aston Martin in Dubai as the Aston super saloon for the Middle East. But it could come to the UK.
Back in July, Aston Martin revealed a new Lagonda super saloon was being built by Aston Martin Q exclusively for the Middle East, and Aston Martin flew the new Lagonda out to Muscat for testing in August. And now we know it’s the Lagonda Taraf.
Revealed by new Aston Martin CEO Andy Palmer, the Taraf moniker means ‘Ultimate Luxury’ in Arabic (according to AML), but Aston’s press release for the Taraf’s unveiling says it will be known as the Taraf ‘in that market’, which makes it clear that the rumours Aston may take their new Lagonda to other markets looks to be confirmed.
The Taraf is currently only being built in very limited numbers and at an undisclosed price (rumoured to be anything up to £1 million), but if it is to arrive in the UK, Europe and the USA it will doubtless be rebadged, become a production model and get a (slightly) more sane price tag – and lose some of its Middle East fripperies.
As far as we know, the Lagonda not only uses Aston Martin’s ubiquitous VH platform and 5.9 litre V12 in 565bhp guise, but we expect it also gets the benefit of the new 8-speed ‘box Aston are now fitting to the Vanquish and Rapide.
Lagonda could be properly back in play.
