Lamborghini Aventador hits 5,000
The Lamborghini Aventador has hit the milestone of 5,000 sales since it went on sale in 2011, selling at twice the rate the Murcielago did.
When the Lamborghini Aventador went on sale in 2011, it replaced the quite ancient Murcielago, a car that had been on sale for almost a decade, so it was no real surprise the Aventador got off to a terrific start with buyers jumping in to 1,000 Aventadors in the first 15 months. That was a rate of sale around twice what the Murcielago managed during its almost ten years on sale, and that rate of sales continued, with Lamborghini shifting 2,000 Aventadors in the first two years.
That was half as many cars as the Murcielago ever sold (4,099 in its entire run), so it seemed likely that sales of the Aventador would start to drift down and be more in line with its predecessors annual sales. But not a bit of it.
In fact, the Aventador has continued to sell at the same rate as it did in the first two years and now, after five years of production, Lamborghini is celebrating the 5,000th Aventador – an Aventador Roadster in Rosso Bia – as the Aventador shows no sign of slowing sales.
Of course, the Aventador has evolved from the LP 700-4 to the LP 750-4, with SV models and madly-priced special versions like the Centenario, but its ‘poster’ looks and performance that can seriously challenge even the world’s hypercars have kept it selling strongly.
And that shows no sign of changing any time soon.
