Lamborghini appear to be planning a Superleggera verion of the LP560-4 or LP550-2.
When Lamborghini decided to build a car to compete with the Ferrari F430 Scuderia, the Gallardo was coming towards the end of its shelf life. The LP560-4 was already well on the way and it seemed like a good farewell model for the old Gallardo.
But if the photo above is anything to go by it looks as if Lamborghini is planning a Superleggera version of the LP560-4 sooner rather than later. Which would work out pretty well for Lamborghini as they have rashly declared that they will deliver a new car at every road show, and with the replacement for the Murcielago cars – LP640/LP650-4/LP670-4 – still some way off, this could be a good solution.
They’ve run out of new cars for shows after revealing the Lamborghini Reventon Roadster this week at Frankfurt, so they need to get a bit of a hustle on before the next major show if they’re going to keep their promise.
But will it actually be an LP560-4 Superleggera, or will Lamborghini take the two wheel drive LP550-2 Balboni and make it in to a Superleggera? That would probably make more sense as the 4WD does add a chunk of weight, and a rear wheel drive Superleggera would be more driver focused – the whole point of the Superleggera.
We’ll know more soon.
