The new range-topping Lexus LC will get its UK debut at the 2016 Goodwood Festival of Speed, ahead of a Spring 2017 debut in Lexus showrooms.
The stunning Lexus LC 500 was finally revealed as a production car in January, complete with the 467bhp naturally aspirated V8 straight out of the RC F, and now the UK gets a chance to see exactly what the new Lexus Coupe looks like in the flesh, with its UK debut at this month’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. Not only will the LC 500 be part of the Lexus stand at Goodwood, it will also tackle the hillclimb over the weekend in the hands of a trio of drivers – Mike Conway, Scott Pruett and ex-F1 driver Alex Wurz – as Lexus seek to demonstrate there’s more to t he LC than just stunning looks.
Sensibly, Lexus has chosen to debut the LC 500 on the hillclimb rather than its hybrid sibling, because we’re not entirely sure the LC500h is quite the car the crowds at Goodwood are likely to lust after.
Despite hopes that the LC500h would be the performance star – and a lot of rumours that it could get up to 600bhp from a combination of ICE and electric motors – the production offering is a much more prosaic one.
Endowed with a 3.5 litre V6 Atkinson Cycle ICE and an electric motor, the four-speed automatic LC500h actually delivers a rather disappointing 354bhp. Lexus say that’s enough for a sub-5 seconds 0-62mph.
Other offerings from Lexus at Goodwood are interesting too, including the LFA supercar, and the RC F and GS F not only on show at the Lexus stand but available to drive up the hillclimb on the Moving Motor Show day (Thursday June 23).
Lexus will also have on show F Sport versions of the RC 300h, NX 300h and RX 450h.
The 2016 Goodwood Festival of Speed kicks off with the Moving Motor Show on 23 June and runs through to Sunday 26 June.
