The new Lexus UX 300e, Lexus’s first production electric car has been revealed at the Guangzhou Motor Show in China and on sale in 2021.
Lexus has been teasing an electric car for the Guangzhou Motor Show, but we weren’t really sure what it would be. Would it be a production version of the Lexus LF-SA Concept from 2015, or an electric version of Lexus’s UX compact SUV? It turns out it’s the latter.
Looking just like an ICE Hybrid UX, the UX 300e comes with a single electric motor at the front good for 201bhp and 221lb/ft of torque, a 54.3kWh battery pack under the floor and a range of 250 miles. It’ll also charge at up to 50kW.
The only modest cosmetic changes to accommodate the UX EV version are the addition of a charging point where the fuel filler usually is and a new set of aerodynamic alloys.
Lexus say they’ve employed lessons learnt with their history of hybrid powertrains to develop the UX EV, delivering highly efficient motor, inverter, gears and battery capacity, complete with temperature management operating at low and high temperatures.
The electric UX won’t arrive in the UK until 2021, although it will go on sale in China next year.
