London EV Company (LEVC) has now built 2,500 electric taxis in Coventry, with 80 per cent in London and the rest spread across the UK and overseas.
If you’ve been in London in the last year and used a Black Cab, you may have been fortunate enough to hitch a ride in one of the new LEVC (almost) electric Taxis as they start to proliferate across the capital and clean up the noise and pollution the old TX cabs inflicted.
Now, a bit over eighteen months since the TX Cab arrived, LEVC has hit a bit of a milestone with the 2,500th taxi rolling off the line at their plant in Coventry (above).
LEVC say the new TX has managed in that time to save 6,800 tonnes of CO2 being emitted thanks to its electric setup and, more importantly, NOx emissions have been cut by 99.5 per cent.
In the process of travelling most of the time as an EV, Cabbies have saved themselves 850,000 litres of fuel, and saved around £3.85 million in fuel costs as a result, averaging a weekly saving of £100 compared to the last generation diesel taxi, whilst covering a total of 21 million miles.
But it’s not just London benefiting from the new TX, although 80% are in the capital, with LEVC Cabs now in Manchester, Birmingham, Coventry, Glasgow and Edinburgh, as well as in overseas markets like Norway, Holland, Sweden and Hong Kong.
The sooner these range-extender taxis replace the old diesel TX the better; for air quality, the Cabbie and the passengers.
