Lynk & Co 03 Cyan Concept smashes Nurburgring records
The Lynk & Co 03 Cyan Concept has taken the record for the fastest four-door saloon and the fastest front-wheel drive car at the Nurburgring.
We’ve never been huge fans fo Nurburgring lap records, as they really have little significance to owners’ real world enjoyment of a car. There also seem to be records in so many categories, we’re surprised every car manufacturer hasn’t claimed their own record for whatever category they’ve picked; ‘Fastest four-door saloon with 22″ wheels and red alloys’ is perhaps a contender?
That said, new records set by the Lynk & Co 03 Cyan Concept – essentially a titivated new Volvo 40-Series under the skin – are impressive, even if they are arguably invalid because the 03 Cyan Concept is a car with ‘Production Intent’, rather than being an actual production car.
Still, the 03 Cyan has set a time on the Nurburgring of 7 minutes 20.143 seconds, which is three seconds quicker than Jaguar’s recent two-in-a-row efforts with the XE SV Project 8, making the 03 Cyan the quickest four-door saloon round the lap.
Not only that, but the lap time set by the 03 Cyan is a full 25 seconds quicker than the quickest previous lap by a front-wheel drive car set by the Renault Mégane RS Trophy R.
The Lynk & Co 03 Cyan Concept is a reworking of the firm’s WTCR car, and delivers 521bhp and 372lb/ft of torque to the front wheels (yes, 521bhp to the front wheels), hitting 62mph in 4.4 seconds and topping out at 193mph. It averaged over 100mph round the Nurburgring.
Thed Björk, who drive the 03 Cyan round the Nurburgring, said:
The car is rewarding to drive no matter the conditions, be it the Nürburgring or the autobahn. The record that we achieved here is something I rank on the same level as my racing titles and a highlight in my part of transitioning development from race to road cars.
