Mazda 2 gets 2018 updates – and there’s a Mazda2 Sport Black Limited Edition too

Mazda is giving the Mazda2 range – Mazda’s Ford Fiesta competitor – a bit of an update for 2018 and launching a new Limited Edition model – the Mazda 2 Sport Black.

Mazda do like to give the Mazda2 a bit of an annual health check and throw in a few upgrades to make the Mazda2 just a bit different to the previous year’s model.

Last year saw the arrival of the Mazda2 GT and GT Sport to the range as Mazda titivated the Mazda2 range, and this year is a similar story, but it also comes with a new Limited Edition model too – the Mazda2 Sport Black.

The Mazda2 Sport Black is a run of just 500, with black door mirrors, black roof spoiler, black skirts, black grille and black antenna on the roof, as well as a set of black alloys and privacy glass. We get the message – it’s a Mazda2 Sport ‘Black’.

Under the bonnet of the Sport Black is a Hobson’s choice of Mazda’s 1.5 litre SkyActiv-G petrol engine with a modest 88bhp, but there’s more choice of colours with Deep Crimson Mica, Dynamic Blue Mica or Machine Grey Metallic on offer. Oddly, the photos Mazda sent us of the new Sport Black are of a white car (above). The Mazda2 Sport Black costs from £15,995.

The regular Mazda2 range now consists of five trim levels – SE+, SE-L+, SE-L Nav+, Sport Nav+ and GT Sport Nav+ – with just the 1.5 litre SkyActiv-G petrol engine available, although you do have a choice of 73, 88 or 113 bhp versions.

The entry-level SE+ comes with 15″ alloys, heated power fold door mirrors and electric windows as additions to the previous entry-level Mazda2, with the SE-L+ and SE-L+ Nav improved with auto lights, rear parking sensors, auto wipers and Climate.

At the higher end of the Mazda2 range the Sport Nav gets a black roof spoiler and the GT Sport Nav+ adds a reversing camera, with new paint colours – Ceramic Metallic, Sonic Silver Metallic, Machine Grey Metallic and Soul Red Crystal.

The 2018 Mazda2 range costs from £13,295 to £17,095.
