Mazda MX-5 Lightweight Spyder & Speedster Concepts at SEMA
Mazda has revealed lightweight Spyder and Speedster concepts – created with aftermarket parts – of the MX-5 at the 2015 SEMA Show in Las Vegas.
The SEMA Show in Las Vegas is the venue for the debut of a pair of Mazda MX-5 Concepts – the MX-5 Speedster and MX-5 Spyder – bothy based on the new MX-5 and created using aftermarket parts to create MX-5s that are even lighter than the production car.Mazda say the inspiration for the SEMA Concepts is vintage roadsters, with a big emphasis on demonstrating the core strengths of the MX-5 and showing what can be achieved by working with a a range of aftermarket parts suppliers and performance shops.

The Mazda MX-5 Speedster is the more extreme of the two concepts, with a big emphasis on cutting back anything possible.
The doors and seats are carbon fibre, and there is no windscreen, which adds up to an MX-5 that weighs just 943kg.
Inside gets Alcantara trim on top of the carbon fibre seats, under the skin there’s Mazda’s 2.0 litre SkyActiv-G engine delivering 158bhp, with suspension tweaks including K&W coilover suspension that’s 30mm lower and 16″ RAYS alloys.

The MX-5 Spyder is not quite as extreme as the Speedster, but it does weigh in at a lightweight 1043kg, comes with a ‘Bikini’ top, carbon fibre body kit, 17″ ADVAN alloys, Brembo calipers and a PRIMA natural grain leather interior.
Both MX-5 Concepts can be seen until 6 November at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas if you happen to be popping off across the Pond.
