The McLaren 570S Spider has been revealed as McLaren bring new open-top motoring to the Sports Series. On sale now in the UK from £164,750.
The McLaren 570S is the most attainable McLaren Spider ever, according to McLaren, although that’s a relative term as it costs from £164,750 in the UK. Still, if you were struggling to rake up the loose change for a McLaren Convertible at least you know it’s ‘attainable’.
The folding hard top on the Spider does come with a weight penalty of 46kg, but McLaren are quoting the same 0-62mph of 3.2 seconds and 204mph top speed as the coupe, delivered by McLaren’s 562bhp 3.8 litre V8.
Using the same system as the 650S Spider, the two-part retractable hardtop takes just 15 seconds to open or shut, and you can do it at up to 25mph for a bit of High Street posing.
From the front, the Spider looks the same as the 570S Coupe, but the back end has had a tweak to accommodate the folding top, with the spoiler sitting a bit higher and a pair of buttresses which come in handy for supporting the retractable wind deflector.
Inside, apart from the fact the roof will disappear at the touch of a button, is identical to the Coupe, with a trio of new colours for the exterior – Curacao Blue, Vega Blue and Sicilian Yellow – new, 10-spoke lightweight forged alloy wheels and a Liquid Black colour option for the brake calipers.
Mike Flewitt, McLaren CEO, said:
The McLaren 570S Spider is the most attainable McLaren Spider to date and adds yet another dimension to the McLaren Sports Series family.
This is a convertible without compromise; its mid-engined layout and carbon fibre MonoCell II chassis guarantee the same thrilling dynamic performance and exceptional driver involvement enjoyed in a 570S Coupé, but with the added attraction of a retractable hard-top that delivers the extra exhilaration of roof-down motoring.
The McLaren 570S Spider is now on sale at McLaren’s UK dealers, with first customer cars in time for the summer sun in August. The 570S Spider costs from £164,750.

The retractable wind deflector may be a cool feature on this pricey supercar, but I’m quite amazed that the much affordable Zefferus wind deflector also does a great job of reining in the vices of gust and turbulence on my not-so-pricey drop top!
