First look at McLaren’s BP23 Hyper GT
The McLaren BP23 – McLaren’s forthcoming three-seat ‘Hyper-GT’ – will have a top speed in excess of the McLaren F1 when it arrives as a new Ultimate Series car in 2019.
A new McLaren Ultimate Series car will arrive later in 2018 – codenamed McLaren BP23 – and it will, in many ways, be the spiritual successor to the legendary McLaren F1.McLaren has been busy teasing the BP23 since late 2016, when it revealed the BP23 was in development and that it would, just like the F1, come with a three-seat interior.
We had another tease for the BP 23 in March last year, and six months later McLaren were back with ‘spy’ photos of the BP23 as a 720S mule.
Another six months have now gone by, so McLaren feels the need to deliver another tease for the BP23, this time with a design sketch giving us a first look, and the new that the BP23 will have a top speed in excess of 243mph, making it faster than the F1.
We also learn that McLaren are building just 106 BP23’s – the same total as the F1, including track F1s – and that it will be the most luxurious McLaren ever made.
It will come with a hybrid powertrain using the 720S’s 4.0 litre V8 as the staring point and, we’re assuming, delivering more power than the P1if it’s going to be as quick as McLaren say.
But if all this tempts you to dig down the back of the sofa for a missing million or two, don’t bother. McLaren has already pre-sold every BP23.
