McLaren MP4-12C - not a 'Gas Guzzler'
The new McLaren MP4-12C has avoided the American ‘Gas Guzzler’ tax by achieving sector-leading economy in U.S EPA fuel consumption tests.
How many miles to the gallon does the McLaren MP4-12C do?
It’s not exactly the first question that pops out of the mouth of a prospective buyer. Much more likely is how much does it cost and how well does it go.
But the how much does it cost question is something that’s related to how many miles to the gallon a car does in the US, as they have a ‘Gas Guzzler’ tax that gets slapped on the least economical cars on the market. And remarkably, thanks to its efficient 3.8 litre V6 and light weight, the MP4-12C has avoided that extra tax.
EPA tests give the MP4-12C results of 15 mpg city and 22 mpg highway (that’s 18mpg and 26mpg in Imperial) which, although not likely to give the MP4-12C a green halo, does mark it out from the competition.
Other good news for American buyers of the new McLaren is that deliveries are now scheduled to start in January – a couple of months later than planned.
The delays in starting US deliveries revolve round the software issues McLaren has had with the MP4-12C, but now they’re fixed everything is back on track.
There are 500 MP45-12Cs scheduled to be delivered in America next year, and the first US owners – including Jay Leno – should be getting a phone call around now from McLaren telling them their new car is on the way.
