McLaren tease SECOND new Ultimate Series car to succeed the P1
McLaren has started to tease a new Ultimate Series Car – codenamed P15 – which will join the McLaren BP23 as successors to the P1.
It took McLaren getting on for 20 years to deliver its second Hypercar, with the McLaren P1 arriving as a successor to the stunning McLaren F1, and it took Ferrari more than a decade to deliver LaFerrari to follow the Enzo. But McLaren are on track to deliver two new Hypercars to replace the P1, with the ‘GT’ Hypercar, three-seat BP23 being joined by a new, extreme, track-focused, but road legal, Ultimate Series, codenamed P15.
McLaren say the P15 (which won’t be its production name) will be a brutal, track-focussed car happily compromising on-road usability for the most intense experience on track. But road-legal it will be.
The P15 is expected to arrive before the BP23, and although McLaren aren’t saying we expect it to come with the 4.0 litre turbo from the 720S with some serious fettling, electric assistance, bespoke chassis and intense, uncompromising performance.
McLaren are expected to reveal the P15 in early 2018, perhaps at the Geneva Motor Show, but if you’re hoping to buy one you may be disappointed – rumours are they’re all sold already.
It seems unlikely Ferrari will deliver a replacement for LaFerrari any time soon, so the McLaren P15 will be taking on new stuff like the Aston Martin Valkyrie and Mercedes-AMG Project One Hypercar.
Which will be more than a little interesting.
