Mercedes-AMG A35 Saloon
The Mercedes-AMG A35 Saloon is revealed to join the A35 Hatch as the ‘lesser’ AMG models in the new Mercedes A Class range.
What is a Mercedes A-Class? Is it a Hatch? Is it a Saloon? Is it a swoopy four-door Coupe? Well, as you know, it’s now all three, which means AMG has to play the same game. So say hello to the new Mercedes-AMG A35 Saloon. As you probably already suspect, this is the ‘warm’ AMG A-Class saloon ahead of full fat A45 versions to come, and in every way you’d expect it’s the same as the A35 Hatch. Except there’s more room, a slightly fat arse and a bit less shouting.
When Mercedes revealed the A35 Hatch, the launch car was bright yellow. This was a fun hatch to go blatting in, it said. The A35 Saloon launches in a shade of middle-management blue. So this is the ‘Sensible’ A35.
It gets the same 2.0 litre turbo engine with 302bhp, seven-speed dual-clutch ‘box, AMG tuned suspension and 4MATIC 4WD as the hatch, all conspiring to scoot the A35 to 62mph in 4.8 seconds.
There’s a bit AMG bling with new wheels, a titivated bumper and front splitter, and the inside is pretty much the same with big screens and the new MBUX Infotainment as well as plenty of driver assistance tech.
Of course, if you want to wait a little bit, you will be able to have a slightly smaller A-Class saloon with less headroom for more money when Mercedes get round to delivering the AMG35 CLA.
Spoilt for choice.
