Mercedes-Maybach S 650 Cabriolet teased for LA
A Mercedes-Maybach S 650 Cabriolet is being teased for a Los Angeles Motor Show, and it looks like the posh S-Class Cabriolet will be a limited run of 300.
The Mercedes-Maybach sub-brand designed to let the posh Mercedes Maybach brand to live on after the brand itself died is about to spawn a new model – the Mercedes-Maybach S 650 Cabriolet – which is heading for a debut at the Los Angeles Motor Show this month.Although the short video Mercedes has released on social media to tease the S650 Coupe’s arrival in Los Angeles tells us what’s coming, it doesn’t offer much in the way of detail.
We’re assuming the S 650 moniker either means Mercedes’ V12 has grown to 6.5 litres or the Maybach take on the S 600 Cabriolet comes with the same power as the S65.
Either way, it looks like the Maybach S 650 is going to offer more power and performance than its S600 Cabriolet poor relation, although, unlike the Maybach saloon, it doesn’t look like it’s any longer.
What is a given are cosmetic tweaks and titivations, inside and out, to make the Maybach more distinctive, as well as lashings of the best leather and wood and all the technology toys Mercedes has in its arsenal.
But it appears Mercedes don’t have any intention of making the Maybach S 650 Cabriolet a production model and appear to be limiting it to just 300 examples. Which would tend to suggest its price is going to be a bit silly – perhaps £250k or more.
All will be revealed at the Los Angeles Motor Show – if not before.
