New 2015 Honda Civic Type R confirmed for Geneva debut (video)

The production version of the new Honda Civic Type R – previewed as a concept at Paris 2014 – will debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.

It seems to have taken a very long time for a new Honda Civic Type R to arrive, but last year – at the Paris Motor Show – Honda showed the new Type R as a fully formed concept, and now the full production version is set to debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show in March.

Honda are teasing the new Type R with a video (below), although its clear that the production version of the Type R will be pretty faithful to the concept.

That means at least 276bhp from its 2.0 litre i-VTEC engine – which will be enough to get to 62mph in under 6 seconds – driving the front wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox and a new steer axis control to keep torque steer in check.

The new Type R will also have an ‘R+’ button that turns the Type R from a reasonably civilised everyday hot hatch in to something far more aggressive, with increased response from the engine, more responsive steering, remapped torque and tweaked dampers.

The new Civic Type R will sit alongside the new Honda NSX, which will be the same as the Acura NSX revealed at Detroit earlier this month but with Honda badges instead.

We also expect Honda to have the new McLaren MP4-30 F1 car on display at Geneva, complete with its Honda powertrain.
