The new Mazda2 was all but revealed at the Geneva Motor Show in March in the guise of the Mazda Hazumi Concept, but now the real new Mazda2 has arrived, or at least it has in Japan.
That means the same Kodo design language Mazda has introduced across its range recently with a shield grill flowing in to the headlights, big wheel arches and horizontal lights at the back – all very much like the Hazumi.
The interior of the new Mazda2 echoes much of the new Mazda3, with a big Infotainment screen atop the dash, simple controls and an iDrive-style input.
Mazda hasn’t been particularly forthcoming with technical information and specs, but we do know the new Mazda2 will get the new 1.5 litre SKYACTIV diesel with its impressive economy and emissions as well as the 1.5 litre SKYACTIV petrol engine in various states of tune.
Mazda are hoping to significantly increase their share of the supermini sector with the new Mazda2, and with prices expected to start at around £11k when it launches – probably in early 2015 in the UK – it has every chance of doing so.
