New Audi Q5 and compact Audi Q2 SUV will both arrive in 2016
Audi has confirmed – once more – that its entry-level Q2 compact SUV will arrive in 2016, as will the next generation Audi Q5.
What we thought was going to be the Audi Q1 – an entry-level, very compact, SUV – will in fact be the Q2, and Audi has re-confirmed its arrival for 2016, probably at the Geneva Motor Show, as it reveals its £2.2 billion investment for the coming year.As we already know, the Q2 will be the new baby SUV in the Audi line-up, running on a shortened version of the VW MQB platform and will get a similar range of petrol and diesel engines to the A1 (although the two are really only related by their similar place in the Audi line-up), with FWD as standard and quattro 4WD on the very top end models.
It’s thought the Q2 will also spawn an e-tron model as well as a range-topping SQ2 version, although probably not at launch.
Also in Audi’s plans for 2016 are the next-generation Q5, and although Audi have released no details it is expected to ride on the MQB platform and deliver a powerful range-topper in the guise of a new RS Q5.
With plans to deliver a new electric Q6, the Q6 e-tron, as well as, perhaps, a hydrogen-powered Q6 h-tron, the future for Audi seems to be very much focussed on its SUV range.
