New BMW X5 M and X6 M Competition arrive
The new BMW X5 M and X6 M Competition arrive with a 4.4 litre V8 delivering 620bhp and 553lb/ft of torque. Prices start at £110,610 for the X5 M.
How bonkers do you want a premium, sporty SUV to be, and how much power should it have? Well, if you think it needs more than 600bhp then your choice is quite limited, but now there are a couple of new options – the new BMW X5 M and X6 M Competition. The new BMW super SUV twins, separated at birth by a roof deformity on the X6 M, arrive boasting a 4.4 litre V8, and for the UK the only models you’ll be able to buy are the Competition X5 M and X6 M, and they boast 620bhp and 553lb/ft of torque.
Both are limited to 155mph, unless you shell out for the M Driver’s Pack when they’ll hit 180mph, with the X5 M hitting 62mph in 3.9 seconds and the X6 M in 3.8 seconds. Which is not slow.
BMW say the cars have been tuned for maximum agility and traction – and with a rear-wheel bias for the 4WD will actually drift – with a suspension greatly tweaked, with stiffer mountings, M braces, adaptive dampers and roll stabilisation as well as bigger M brakes which are adaptive with comfort and sport modes.
Looks are as you’d expect, with M-aggressive big air intakes, twin exhausts, flared wheel arches, spoilers and chunky wheels, and an interior boasting some Alcantara, panoramic roof, posh Sound and more.
Prices start at £110,610 for the X5 M Competition and £113,310 for the X6 M Competition, and you’ll be able to buy one next spring.
