New Mercedes-AMG GT R caught on video
The Mercedes-AMG GT R – a more potent take on AMG’s GT – is caught on video at the Nurburgring ahead of its Goodwood debut.
The Mercedes-AMG GT arrived in 2014 as the effective replacement for the SLS as AMG sought to take on the Porsche 911. And now there’s a new range-topping (for now) GT on the way – the Mercedes-AMG GT R.With a planned debut for the AMG GT R at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed in June, Mercedes are busy shaking their new car down at the Nurburgring, and we have video (below) of it in action. A short clip, admittedly, but the GT R does look composed and more than a little lively.
With weight cut by up to 100kg, a new bold front end, central exhaust and big spoiler – as well as a more aggressive body kit – the GT R is expected to come with four-wheel steering and active dynamics, as well as a boost in power over the 4.0 litre GT S to something around 550bhp.
But the AMG GT R isn’t going to be the pinnacle of power and performance, with plans to deliver a GT Black Series at some point.
The Mercedes-AMG GT R will make its public debut at the 2016 Goodwood Festival of Speed at the end of June, and is expected to go on sale in early 2017.
