The new Mercedes GLE – the re-named ML – will arrive at the New York Motor Show next week and be in Mercedes showrooms by autumn 2015.
The new Mercedes GLE Coupe arrived in December as Mercedes’ answer to the BMW X6, in a move that was the wrong way round to normal car launches where it’s the core model that arrives first and the ‘style’ models after.
But now Mercedes are ready to reveal their core model – the replacement for the ML – with the arrival of the new Mercedes GLE at the New York Motor Show next week.
The new GLE is expected to look very similar to the GLE Coupe, but it will clearly be more functional – with a proper SUV body shape – and probably with a little less glitz than the Coupe.
Inside, the new GLE will be just like the Coupe (but with more headroom in the back and space in the boot), with its more upmarket cabin than the ML ever enjoyed, and a raft of technology.
Engine choices are expected to mimic those of the Coupe – including the GLE 450 AMG Sport – but it’s rumoured there will be a GLE 500e plug-in hybrid too, which may debut at the same time as the rest of the range.
With the start of the New York Motor Show just a week away, we should have more news on the new GLE shortly.
