The new Mitsubishi L200 pick-up is revealed in Thailand with major changes, ahead of arriving in the UK in summer 2019.
The new Mitsubishi L200 (aka Mitsubishi Triton) got a bit of a tease last month with a long distance shot of the new pick-up, and now it’s been revealed. Although it’s still a bit of a long distance view, as Mitsubishi chose to reveal it in Thailand, but it will arrive in the UK next summer.
The current L200 only arrived in 2014, but despite that Mitsubishi say they have wrought more than 2,400 changes to make the new L200 a much more appealing and improved pick-up.
Cosmetically, the stand out change is to the front end, with Mitsubishi’s ‘Dynamic Shield’ grille and new headlights, but there are bigger wheel arches too, new bumpers and tail lights and an improved interior.
It looks like Mitsubishi’s new, more angular, styling for the L200 is designed to appeal to ‘Lifestyle’ buyers (and BIK gamers) to look more like an SUV with a load bed than a rough and ready pick-up and, in the UK, it seems unlikely Mitsubishi will offer anything other than the top end double cab models.
Under the skin there will be two different 4WD systems on offer (Super-Select 4WD and Easy-Select 4WD), and you’ll get new off-road mode for gravel, snow, sand and rock too, as well as Hill Descent.
Safety stuff includes Forward Collision Mitigation, Blind Spot warning, Rear Cross Alert and Ultrasonic Misacceleration Mitigation System (it intervenes if you mash the throttle by accident when parking) and Multi Around Monitor for a birds eye view.
The new Mitsubishi L200 goes on sale in Thailand (as the Mitsubishi Triton) this month, and is expected in the UK by the middle of 2019. expect prices to nudge up a bit.
