The New Nissan LEAF gets a Euro NCAP 5-Star rating
The new Nissan LEAF EV is the first car to be tested under the new stricter 2018 Euro NCAP tests, and the LEAF has come out with a 5-star rating.
When it comes to safety, we all want our cars to be rated as highly as possible, and car makers have done plenty in recent years to make cars ever more safe – for occupants and pedestrians – driven by the ever more stringent tests applied by Euro NCAP.Thankfully, most cars submitted for testing come out with a good safety rating these days (although there are exceptions – like the zero star Fiat Punto), but a maximum five stars is still a story, especially when it’s the first test under stricter rules – and it’s the new Nissan LEAF.
Under the new rules, autonomous braking systems have to work harder with offset for the target, night and cycle detection, more emphasis on clever rear seat belts, lane support systems and speed limit information.
Despite these more stringent regulations the new Nissan LEAf has sailed through the Euro NCAP test and been given a 5-star rating, with 93 per cent for adult safety and 86 per cent for child protection.
Gareth Dunsmore, Nissan’s European Electric Vehicle Director, said:
The Euro NCAP announcement proves what we have known for a long time – that the new Nissan LEAF has exceptional safety standards and is a true pioneer in the EV space. This shows that our customers can fully trust our Nissan Intelligent Mobility vision, we are on a path to transform the way we drive and the way we live.
The Euro NCAP 5-Star rating for the LEAF comes just a few months after the LEAF received a 5-Star rating from Japan’s equivalent testing.
One more reason the new LEAF is now a viable alternative to an ICE car for many drivers.
