New Toyota Corolla Saloon revealed
The new Toyota Corolla Saloon has been revealed in China, and it will join the Hatch and Estate versions of the Corolla in the UK lineup.
We had a tease for the new Toyota Corolla Saloon last week, although it seemed unlikely Toyota would be offer it for sale in the UK. But now the Corolla Saloon has been revealed – and it is coming to the UK.Set to join the Hatch and Estate versions of the Corolla in the UK lineup, the new Corolla Saloon is, say Toyota, aimed at young professionals wanting a bit of prestige, with the Hatch aimed at young couples and the Estate aimed at families.
Just like Mercedes with the new A-Class Saloon and Honda with the Civic Saloon, Toyota clearly believes there is still enough interest in a saloon car to make it a viable option. And extra choice for buyers is no bad thing.
To pitch at that ‘Prestige’ market, Toyota has given the Corolla Saloon a new nose with revised grille, headlights and bumper, and a new set of tail lights and chrome bits, although the interior is much the same as the Hatch and Estate it offers more space than the Hatch as it shares the Estate’s longer wheelbase.
Power for the new Corolla saloon will, no surprise, be hybrid, with the 1.8 litre 121bhp from the C-HR probably the only choice in the UK (why no 178bhp 2.0 litre?), with a 1.6 litre petrol also being offered in other markets.
Toyota say the new Corolla Saloon will go on sale in the UK early in 2019.
