New Toyota Yaris GR Sport arrives
The new Toyota Yaris GR Sport is revealed as a sporty-looking Yaris with suspension tweaks and sporty looks courtesy of the Yaris GRMN.
Last year we got the Toyota Yaris GRMN as Toyota’s transformation from a bit bland to a bit edgy (and sporty) continues, complete with sporty looks and a pretty chunky 209bhp at its disposal. The UK only got 100 Yaris GRMN cars, and it was never going to be a mainstream model. But Toyota is making sure that some of the work they did to create the Yaris GRMN is put to good use with this – the new Toyota Yaris GR Sport.
The first Toyota GR Sport model to hit the UK, the Yaris GR Sport looks to be the start of a range of ‘GRMN-Line’ cars to deliver sporty looks, and a sportier demeanour, but without added power. Just like ST Line, N Line et al.
That means a Yaris which looks the sporty part, with black 17″ cast alloy wheels (fitted with the same Bridgestones as the GRMN), black bi-tone roof with spoiler, black honeycomb grille, black mirrors and front fog surrounds, privacy glass and, if you want it, red decals for the front lip and rear bumper.
Inside there are GR branded sports seats in the front in black Ultrasuede with white inserts and contrast stitching, GR tweaks for the multi-info display and a small steering wheel borrowed from the GT86.
Although the power in the GR Sport is the same 98bhp hybrid as the regular Yaris, it does get suspension tweaks for a sportier demeanour including Sachs Performance shocks and a ride lowered by 11mm.
The new Toyota Yaris GR Sport will get its public debut at the Paris Motor Show next month and be on sale in the UK before the end of 2018.
