Prices and specifications for the 2015/2016 Vauxhall Astra have been revealed, with the new Astra cheaper than the current car, costing from £15,295.

The new Vauxhall Astra was revealed at the start of the month, and Vauxhall now reveal pricing and specs for the GM take on the Ford Focus, with a simplified range that costs less than the current range. Which is never a bad thing when you’re looking to make sales.

Built on GM’s D2 platform, the new Astra is smaller on the outside but bigger on the inside than the old model, with weight savings of at least 120kg despite an increase in specifications cross the range.

The entry-level Astra Design (starts at £15,295) comes with 16″ alloys, electric windows, 7″ Infotainment touchscreeen with Intellilink, Bluetooth Air Con and Cruise.

Tech Line spec adds a bigger Touchscreen for the infotainment, Sat Nav and leather steering wheel, with the Energy spec (starts from £17,295) gets 17″ alloys, heated steering wheel and front seats, SRi spec (starts from £17,895) gets different alloys, Driving Assistance with front-view camera, auto lights and wipers, OnStar and Sports seats.

Top of the Astra tree is the Elite spec (from £19,315), which brings leather seats (electric ones at that), heated rear seats, Climate, powered folding mirrors and USB for the back seat passengers.

Engine choices include the 1.0 litre 3-pot from the Corsa with 104bhp, a naturally aspirated 1.4 litre petrol with 99bhp, 1.4 litre petrol turbo , a 1.6 litre petrol turbo with 197bhp and a range of power outputs – from 108bhp to 158bhp – from the 1.6 litre diesel, including an EcoFlex version with just 82g/km.

Although the entry-level price for the new Astra has gone up, that’s because the old Expression trim has gone. The rest of ther ange, model for model, looks to be anything from a bit cheaper to a lot cheaper.

The new Vauxhall Astra will be in Vauxhall’s UK showrooms in October after a debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show.
