New Volvo S90 REVEALED
The new Volvo V90 – effectively an upmarket replacement for the ageing S80 – has been revealed in a scale model from China ahead of its debut.
We’ve all seen just how convincing the new Volvo XC90 is, but Volvo aren’t stopping with replacing the XC90 and have plans to renew their entire model range by 2010.The next model Volvo are due to replace is the ageing S80, which will go to the car graveyard to be replaced by an all new Volvo V90, and it looks like that replacement has been revealed rather sooner than Volvo planned.
Swedish website Teknikens Varld has managed to get hold of images of the new S90 from a Chinese model maker, revealing what we can expect from the new S90 when it debuts.
Teknikens Varld say they’ve checked sources and the models (above and below) are accurate, which seems entirely plausible as the design is very close to a production take on the recent Volvo Concept Coupe – albeit a four-door take – which gave us the first look at Volvo’s design future.
In fact, the front end of the new S90 is very close to the Concept – complete with ‘Thor’ running lights – with a four-door coupe profile, longer greenhouse and a decent-looking back-end with ‘VOLVO’ lettering, big ‘C’ shaped tail light clusters and twin chrome exhausts.
Under the bonnet will be Volvo’s new Drive-E engines – including the T8 range-topper – and an even more upmarket cabin than the XC90, offering a real alternative to the BMW 5 Series, Mercedes E-Class and Jaguar XF.
But it won’t just be a new S90 from Volvo, as we’re also expecting it to spawn an appealing V90 Estate – previewed by the Volvo Concept Estate – as well as effectively a replacement for the old XC70 in a Volvo V90 Cross Country.
We weren’t expecting the new S90/V90 to arrive until Detroit in January, but if Volvo already have the new S90 as a scale model, perhaps it’s scheduled for a Frankfurt Motor Show arrival?
