New VW Golf GTD: Price from £25,285

The new Golf GTD Mk 7 arrived at the Geneva Motor Show last month and has now gone on sale in the UK, priced from £25,285.

Now the UK has followed the lead of Europe and decided diesel cars are a must-have (despite that fact that for most who do average mileage the opposite is true), the new VW Golf GTD price is a big deal, as more buyers seem to be interested in that than the price of the new GTI (£25845 – just £600 more).

At £25,285 the new Golf GTD – revealed at the Geneva Motor Show last month – is just £310 more than the old model despite an increase in equipment and performance and a better specification.

Looking pretty much how you’d expect a GTI Diesel to look, the GTD gets smoked LED rear lights, bi-xenons with LED running lights, two chrome tailpipes, 18″ Nogaro alloys and the slightly butch body kt which includes side skirts, butch bumpers and a roof spoiler.

Inside is ‘GTI’ too with tartan trim, black roof lining, sports steering wheel and GTD-specific trim for the gear lever, trim strips and instrument cluster.

Standard kit includes sports suspension, ambient lighting, Climate, touchscreen Infotainment with Bluetooth, DAB and iPod connectivity, Front Assist (in case you get too close to what’s in front), Auto Post Collison Braking (which does what it say on the tin), City Emergency Braking and Active Cruise.

You can have your new Golf GTD in 3-door or 5-door guise with a manual ‘box or DSG. Prices start at £25,285 for the 3-door manual and rise to £27,355 for the 5-door with DSG, but will rise further if you trouble the options list for stuff like 19″ alloys, Leather, Keyless, Park Assist, Adaptive Chassis Control, SatNav or a better sound system, when you could end up spending over £30k.
